Business Credit Cards in Puerto Rico: Local Banks and U.S. Issuers
Puerto Rico is part of the United States, but not every card company treats it the same as a state. Some U.S. issuers accept businesses on the island, a few exclude it, and the two big local banks have their own business cards. Here is what we found when we checked in October 2026.
Local banks
| Card | Annual fee | Rewards | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Popular Visa PREMIA Business Rewards | $0 | 2x PREMIA points on restaurants, telecom, gas and office supplies; 1x else | Lines from $2,000. Apply by phone or at a branch |
| Popular Visa PREMIA Business Rewards Max | $95 | 3x on airlines, hotels, restaurants, telecom, gas and office supplies; 1x else | Starting limit $5,000. 30,000-point welcome bonus at the time we checked |
| FirstBank Beyond Business Mastercard | $0 the first year, then $50 | Not published in the disclosure | 1.99% intro APR on purchases for 6 months |
A local bank is a good fit if you already bank there, want to apply in person in Spanish, or plan to borrow from the same bank later.
U.S. issuers

- American Express‘s Puerto Rico page sends island businesses to its U.S. products.
- Capital on Tap says its card is not available in U.S. territories, including Puerto Rico.
- Capital One, U.S. Bank, Ramp, Brex, BILL Divvy and Mercury: we could not confirm availability for Puerto Rico businesses. Ask before you apply.
Rules change, so confirm on the issuer’s site. Our card finder has a “Puerto Rico” option that highlights local banks and flags cards to confirm.
Tips for Puerto Rico owners
- Use your Puerto Rico address everywhere your business is registered (Departamento de Estado), on your EIN and at the bank. Mismatched addresses slow down approvals.
- Build U.S. business credit too. Get your free D-U-N-S number and use accounts that report to business bureaus. See how to build business credit.
- People born in Puerto Rico are U.S. citizens, which matters for SBA loans. See SBA loans in Puerto Rico.
- For larger needs, a local bank loan or SBA loan usually costs less than carrying a card balance. Compare in our loan options tool.
